Oman opens the country’s first flight training academy
The first flight school in Oman, called the Oman Aviation Academy (OAA), has opened its main office at Sohar Airport.
The goal of the aviation academy is to train both civilian and military pilots to a high level in the Middle East and Africa.
The Academy is now fully running and has a campus that meets international standards. The building has a total built-up area of 35,000 sq m and can hold about 150 students per year. It has state-of-the-art training systems, such as four flight simulators, and is equipped with these.
The academy has a control tower building, a place for planes to park, a building for maintaining planes, and a place for students to live.
Last month, the Omani Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) gave the first Approved Training Organization (ATO) certificate to the Oman Aviation Academy (OAA).
OAA is a partnership between the Ministry of Defense Pension Fund, Airbus Helicopters, the Omani Authority for Partnership for Development (OAPFD), and the Oman National Investments Development Company (TANMIA).
In October 2019, the Academy made a deal with Diamond Aircraft Austria to buy six single-engine DA40 NG and two twin-engine DA42-VI planes for its facility at the Sohar Airport.
Oman Aviation Academy (OAA) also got FTD-1, which includes qualification for FNPT-II/MCC in April 2022. EASA made sure that the MPS Boeing 737 MAX FTD was ready to fly. The simulator is the first of its kind in the area. It is at the Sohar Airport in Oman.
